Maggie Q isn’t your typical Hollywood celebrity. She’s an artist and activist with a self-prescribed mandate to bring wellness to everyone she can. Her generosity, empathy for others, and belief that everyone’s entitled to the happiest, healthiest life possible makes her a popular fan favorite.
Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, Maggie’s travelled the world carving out her unique career. One of TV’s toughest ladies, she’s best known for playing the title role on the hit show “Nikita.” But Maggie’s incredible work can also be seen in the Divergent series, Mission Impossible III, and Live Free or Die Hard. She met her fiancé, Dylan McDermott, on the set of their series Stalker. Currently, she stars as Agent Hannah Wells opposite Kiefer Sutherland in the acclaimed ABC series Designated Survivor.
Q’s work doesn’t just appear in film and TV either. She’s also portrays the lead character in the video game Need for Speed: Undercover. She plays federal agent Chase Linh – the gamer’s contact to the Tri-City PD.
But Maggie’s path to career success wasn’t handed to her. At a young age, she moved to Tokyo to try and earn money for college through modeling. With no more than twenty dollars in her wallet and no knowledge of the language, Maggie risked everything. Her risk started to pay off when she was noticed by Jackie Chan – in Maggie he recognized her potential as an action star. With Chan, Q even learned to do her own stunts.
Where many celebrities simply give lip service to “giving back,” Maggie Q is the real deal – lending her name and prominence in the entertainment industry to passionately advocate for those in need. In fact, she co-produced the documentary Earthlings about our dependence on the animal kingdom for economic gain. Narrated by Joaquin Phoenix, the film explores our the ways in which humans exploit animals as pets, for food, clothing, entertainment, and for scientific advancement.
Q speaks quite passionately about PETA Asia’s campaigns promoting vegetarianism. She believes vegetarianism is a great way to help yourself, your health, the environment, and of course the animal kingdom.
She’s been known to say that eliminating meat from her diet was one of the best things she’s ever done for herself. In 2008, Maggie Q earned the honor of becoming PETA Asia-Pacific’s “Person of the Year”. Q also puts her money where her mouth is when it comes to her love for the natural world by cutting all animal products from her diet and following a vegan lifestyle.
However, Maggie Q is not only active when it comes to defending human rights and animal rights, she’s also done a great deal of research in the areas of health and nutrition.
The Health Advocate
Over a decade or so ago, she started contending with several health issues. She felt regularly fatigued, experienced swelling and inflammation in her gut, and had trouble getting through the night without being able to sleep. She saw doctor after doctor, but her situation seemed hopeless.
Finally, she met Dr. Edison de Mello. Not only was Dr. de Mello able to help Maggie overcome her health struggles, they felt a kinship and decided it was time to put their brains together and come up with a way to help everyone feel the possibility of optimum health. Together, they cofounded ActivatedYou.
Not only is ActivatedYou meant to be a high-grade line of supplemental health products, the brand is also meant to inspire dialogue between the vast community of people trying to get a handle on their health. It’s Q’s attempt to help empower folks to take care of their bodies.
Q believes our health isn’t just a doctor’s responsibility. We have to take matters into our own hands. We have to stock our kitchens with what’s best for us. ActivatedYou will also be a place where even those with the most hectic of schedules can get quick, accurate information or drop a line and seek advice.
She’s an inspiration to so many…
It’s clear Maggie Q carries the themes of generosity and optimal health to her ever activity. She feels there’s an important relationship that exists between our health, the overall well-being of the animal world, and environmental sustainability. This core belief of interconnectivity inspires Maggie to reach as many people as she can and generously share the truth about how we can protect our planet and ourselves.
